In collaboration with East London Sport, we're holding a special screening of the groundbreaking documentary, Blacks Can’t Swim: Rewind ahead of the arrival of a pop-up swimming pool to Docklands campus on 23rd October as part of Active Campus. Click here to find out more about Active Campus and book to use the pool.
Produced by Ed Accura, co-founder of the Black Swimming Association (BSA), the film explores the stigmas and stereotypes behind the fact that in England a disproportionate number of people from African, Caribbean and Asian heritage do not swim.
The documentary screening will be followed by an interactive question and answer session facilitated by Ed Accura himself. All are welcome, and viewers are encouraged to raise any questions or discussion points around the film, as well as their experience of water safety and confidence. Insights gathered will help East London Sport deliver a fantastic experience for staff and students in their very own mobile pool, coming to Docklands on 23 October as part of UEL’s exciting Active Campus programme. You can watch the trailer here.
The BSA is the first organisation to promote the education of these communities on water safety, drowning prevention, and the benefits of aquatics through water familiarisation and orientation programmes.
