Hey, my name is Jayraj Samtani (Jay) and I am running for Vice President: Activities and Opportunities. In my time at UEL, I have seen a lack of quality in the events and activities in our university when compared to other institutions. I want to improve the quality of our events and I see a lack of promotion towards on-campus activities right now because of low student engagement. I aim for high student engagement and higher attendance in on-campus events.
The reason I have interest in the sports industry is because I have played inter school football in my then home country India and have further played districts in Spain, where I now reside. Playing football, I developed valuable skills like team building and interaction, taking feedback and acting promptly. I aim to bring these skills to my position in the union.
My main aims if I am elected would be:
- My main aim would be to increase student involvement. I want events which relate to the interests of the student body and I target to achieve high attendance to these social gatherings.
- I want to organize more day time events to encourage involvement when all students are inside the campus for classes. The daytime events will be designed to act like a comfortable space to relax between classes.
- I want to change how we see our in-house partying venue ‘Underground’ and use the space it has with an innovative approach. Expect to see a completely transformed event space with interesting details changing with the theme of every event.
- I also want to bring back our beloved Arts Festival as it provides a space to display the talent our artsy student body has. The art festival would be redesigned to involve more and more groups of students.
- I have also noticed that the students have not been very happy with the food in the cafeteria. I aim to bring a mix of tried and tested dishes from global cuisines which everyone can enjoy and identify with.
- I want to provide support to groups of students with niche interests. I want them to be able to form societies to engage themselves in extracurricular work.
- I want to create a space in the union budget for various societies. I target to provide an easy process for societies to get sponsorships. The system in place right now is time consuming.
I think achieving these aims would improve the quality of student life and involvement in university activities.
Thank you for reading my manifesto and if you would like to contribute something to widen my perspective or provide constructive feedback please feel free to contact me on my official university email
