Become a Hall Representative
We want to extend our representative work to improve the experience of students living in our halls of residence. We're currently recruiting our new team of hall representatives to help us do just that for the 2025/26 year. Find out more about the opportunity below:
Role overview
Living in halls can be a lot of fun with the added benefit of being close to university. However, as with all things, there are times when unexpected issues arise. East London Students’ Union is looking for students who are interested in making things better for yourself and other students to be hall representatives (hall reps).
As a Students' Union hall rep, you will gather feedback on residents’ experiences of living in your hall of residence. You will then present this feedback to Residential Life staff in meetings. You will also meet with other hall reps to discuss common issues students face. For example, you might work together with other hall reps and the Students’ Union on a campaign on communal living and cleanliness to help eliminate pests in halls. Or perhaps you could work on creating more inter-hall opportunities for students to socialise and make friends.
The feedback you collect will help staff make improvements that matter to you and your peers. If you’ve ever been uncertain about how to make change happen, then this role will provide you the opportunity and support to do so.
You will be required to attend meetings once every month to discuss issues that affect your community with other hall reps. Hall reps are volunteers and only work around six hours per semester. Despite this small time commitment, the impact you can have is huge.
Why apply?
You will have the opportunity to improve things for yourself, current and future students.
You will develop valuable professional skills such as:
-
Meeting skills: Attending hall committee meetings will give you the experience of formal meeting structures with a chair, agenda and minutes. This will familiarise you with business processes. You will learn how to express your views, receive feedback and professionally challenge ideas.
