We’re hosting a conference for students which will focus on the University's proposals around practice-based education (PBE). We’d love for all students to join the discussion.

What is practice-based education and why is it relevant to me?

The University is rolling out an updated approach to teaching and learning, called practice-based education. This approach is meant to help students become active players in their learning, with less time spent in lecture halls. Instead, more learning will now happen through placements, simulation, fieldwork, group projects, team-based learning, and case study workshops. Most courses already involve some form of PBE, such as placements or group projects, but the University believes this is the most effective form of teaching and learning, and is looking to expand it. A pilot programme is taking place this year, with the aim of all courses using the updated version of PBE by the 2028/29 academic year.

The conference

As students at the University of East London, it's important that you have a say on your education and how it is delivered. This conference is an opportunity for you to find out more about the concept of PBE and how the University intends to implement it here at UEL. It's also a chance to share your experiences, concerns and recommendations, so that we can use all of this information in our work to influence the University to deliver what you want and need.

Topics of discussion will cover everything from securing placements to your dream campus facilities, as well as inclusion in PBE.

Why should you attend?

You don't need to be an expert to attend, as this session will be informative and beginner-friendly. All we want is to bring together passionate students who care about quality teaching, value for money, and creating the best UEL experience possible for each and every student. Join us to learn more, share your opinions, and help us with our ongoing efforts to shape the University's work.

The conference is free to attend, but you must register in advance.

*This will be a student-only 'safe space' in which you are invited to share as much of your personal experience as you like. While we'll be documenting the findings of our discussions, all outputs will be anonymised.

This session is part of our ongoing series of conferences. Tickets for the upcoming sessions on welcome week and life at UEL will go live soon.
