We have a range of community groups which work to make sure the University is a safe and inclusive space for all students. Community groups are run by a student committee and provide self-defining students with the opportunity to come together to discuss the issues that affect them, socialise with their peers and be part of our drive to create a positive and inclusive environment while at University. Our community groups plan events, provide support to their members, and help to inform our campaigns. Get involved if you want to make sure your voice is heard – membership to our community groups is completely free.
International students' community
Moving to a different country to study can be a daunting experience. Your Students’ Union is here to support all international students to feel at home during your time at University. We can ensure your concerns are heard and support you to make positive change here at UEL, but also help you find new friends, and facilitate events to celebrate your culture here on campus. The International students' community is open to any student who is not defined as a home student by Student Finance.

Are you someone’s Mum, Dad, or Carer? A carer is anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem, or an addiction who cannot cope without their support. People with parental or childcare responsibilities are also considered carers too! The parents and carers community is here to represent you. This network can help you find other students with caring responsibilities, get your voice heard, and create positive change to ensure that student parents and carers get the absolute most out of their time at university.

Mature and part-time students' community If you’re a mature student or someone who studies part-time, this community is here for you! Mature students are anyone over 21 years old at the start of their undergraduate degree, or anyone over 25 years old at the start of their postgraduate degree. The purpose of the network is to support students whose life and professional experience might vary from fellow students. We aim to facilitate events and campaigns that will help you make the most out of your time at UEL, while fitting in with your life outside of study.
Postgraduate students' community
This community is here to bring together postgraduate students from all disciplines, help them to meet, communicate and build relationships with one another. We want to ensure that all your needs and concerns you may have about your studies here are represented through UEL Students’ Union to the University. We can also give support to make positive change in your studies, but with your university experience in general. We want to help you make the most of your postgraduate degree here at UEL.

The disabled community aims to represent the interests of disabled students at the University of East London. Any disabled student, including students with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia or dyspraxia, students with long-term health conditions, and those with Mental Health conditions, are welcome to join. This group aims to provide students with a safe space to talk about how the University could improve its procedures and policies in order to make the experience of disabled students here at UEL better. We will support you to achieve this through campaigns, social events, and amplifying your voices to the University.

The LGBTQ+ students' community is open to any student who identifies as LGBTQ+. The group aims to provide an inclusive, safe space for students to embrace their identities, meeting other students who identify as LGBTQ+, sharing experiences and creating change on campus, and to run a variety of events, parties and meetings. We want every student studying at UEL to be able to express themselves and be proud on campus. This community will support you during your time with us, enabling you to make the most of your University experience.

This is a student-led community which works to represent and campaign for change for women studying at the University of East London. Any student that self-identifies as a woman can join the community, and help to shape the work that we do running events, creating institutional change, and ensuring women’s voices are heard at UEL. We at the Students’ Union aim to ensure that every student feels a part of the University, and has every opportunity to make the most of your time at UEL. This community will provide a space for women to tackle any issues they may face in their studies, and socialise with your sisters.
Black, Asian and minority ethnic students' community
The BAME community is a student-led group that aims to provide support for Black, Asian, and minority ethnic students studying at UEL. The community exists to uplift the voices of BAME students, create a space for you to lead on institutional change, and run events that celebrate the cultures of Black students, Asian students, and other minority ethnic students respectively. At UEL Students’ Union we are committed to celebrating our diverse student body, and to tacking racism. This community is a space to do both, and ensure that you get the most out of your time at University.
