Reinventing Welcome Week: What do students really want?

Wednesday 19 November 2025 - 2pm - 4pm
Students' Union, Stratford

We’re hosting a fun and interactive session to help us improve students’ Welcome Week experience at the University of East London.

Welcome Week means the events and inductions put on by the University and the Students' Union in your first week attending the University of East London.

We want to know all about your welcome experiences so far, what you had expected, and what you'd like to see in future. This is about more than just a list of events - it's also about the vibes, atmosphere, and what you need from the Students' Union and University to help you make friends and feel like you belong.

We'll prompt you to creatively map out your thoughts in a fun way using items like markers, stickers and journalling supplies.

Why should you attend?

This session is open to all students who began their studies in a September cohort (of any year, not just 2025). We want a diverse mix of students to ensure that the outputs from the session are as representative as possible. You don't need any prior knowledge or experience, just thoughts on this September's welcome experience and ideas to make future versions bigger and better! The insights and suggestions from this session will be used to inform future welcome planning.

*This will be a student-only 'safe space' in which you are invited to share as much of your personal experience as you like. While we'll be documenting the findings of our discussions, all outputs will be anonymised.

This session is part of our ongoing series of conferences. Tickets for the upcoming session on life at UEL will go live soon.
