Are you looking for a fun, supportive way to get active and feel better this new year? Join us for Couch to 5K, a beginner-friendly running programme designed to help you go from sitting on the sofa to running 5 kilometres. This life-changing fitness journey is exclusively for newbies, so don’t worry about not being capable of running 5K. We will learn and achieve it together.
The programme is for students who have never run before, don’t enjoy physical activity, or who just need a push to get started. You don’t need a certain level of fitness, experience, or confidence. You just need to show up and run with other newbies.
As a part of our "Five Weeks to Wellbeing" campaign, this programme will help you build a healthy habit through support, routine, and community. Train together, grow together, then end the programme as a team with a 5K fun run, and the satisfaction of how far you've come.
How does it work?
Couch to 5K is an incredibly popular programme to learn to run from scratch. It combines walking and running to build up your fitness until you're able to run 5K by the end of the programme. The programme is typically completed using an app, but we want to bring students together for one run a week. Our club is all about keeping each other accountable to turn up and train every week. Once you’re there, the atmosphere will be supportive and low pressure – the club is there to motivate you to turn up every week.
We'll explain more on week one, but attendees will use the app to complete their other runs across the week, either on their own or with a friend or family member! Download from the Apple Store or Google Play.
What do I need to take part?
Bring a pair of comfortable trainers and clothes suitable for exercising, as well as a bottle of water.
Please bring along any medicines you may need for relevant health conditions, such as asthma inhalers.
