January 2025 update:
As the Wellbeing Officer, I’ve made significant strides on my priorities and have several exciting plans to execute. For the SU Hall Reps initiative, the job description is prepared, and the plan, after reviewing with Lisa, Cienna, and Paddy, will be set for implementation this year.
On sustainability, I hosted a successful stall at the SU Mini Fair, engaging more than 100 students and signing up of 60 students in the campaign through a fun game and incentives.
Upcoming events include activities for Global Recycling Day, International Money Week, Earth Day, and a Tap Map initiative to encourage reusable water bottles. For physical activity, the Couch to 5K program will launch soon at both campuses and conclude with a race event during Health Gain Month.
Speaking of Health Gain Month, I've got plenty planned for the month of March - watch this space!
We spoke to Stuti Sah, Wellbeing Officer for 2024/5, about her background, plans for the role, and top tips for students. Visit the news page to learn about this year's full officer team!
I recently graduated from studying MSc International Business Management. I previously studied Physiotherapy in New Delhi, India. I enjoy dancing, travelling, baking, cooking, crafting, reading books, and crocheting. I love making new friends as well!
I ran to be a student officer because I wanted to be the voice of students, represent them and address key issues affecting students.
What are your main plans this year?
My main priorities are to bridge the gap between students' knowledge of sustainability principles and their actual behaviours, increase the low levels of physical activity among university students, and strengthen the connection between students residing in the halls and the Students’ Union.
This action is needed to keep students healthy and happy along with taking responsibility for keeping our earth healthy. I believe that today’s youth are increasingly aware of the importance of fitness and environmental sustainability, they just need the right ways to start.
By the end of the year, I hope to have improved the mental and physical health of our students and to have encouraged them to adopt more sustainable behaviours. This will contribute to a healthier planet and their pocket too.
Being able to make even a single positive change in the behaviour of students can lead to a lifetime of benefits for them and others as well.
What is your favourite thing about being a student at UEL?
The events and the great people I’ve met. I also love how peaceful and calm the dockside area is.
Any top tips for students?
Keep yourself updated on upcoming events and attend them to make friends and enjoy your university journey. And don’t forget to attend your classes to fully experience student life!
Don’t overthink or hesitate—if you want to do something, just go for it. Time flies by quickly, so make the most of it by making lots of friends, attending events, and enjoying your university life to the fullest.
By getting involved in the Students' Union, students can voice their issues, provide feedback, and help shape a better student experience.
