Couch to 5K

Tuesday 17 June 2025 - 4pm - 5pm
Meet outside North Building (Nook), Docklands

Are you looking for a fun, supportive way to get active, feel better, and meet new people? Join us for Couch to 5K, a beginner-friendly running programme designed to help you go from walking to running 5 kilometres — step by step, together.

Whether you’ve never run before, fallen out of the habit, or just need a bit of motivation, this is the perfect place to start. No experience necessary — just a willingness to try.

Why should you join in?

  • Boost your mental and physical wellbeing
  • Feel supported and connected

  • Build confidence and consistency

  • Celebrate your success (With a certificate at the end, fun events, and even some prizes, we’ll celebrate your progress together!)

This programme is for any student who:

  • Is new to exercise or wants to get back into it.

  • Feels they need a bit of motivation and accountability.

  • May be dealing with low mood, anxiety, or loneliness.

  • Wants to build a positive routine with others.

  • We especially recommend that students with responsibilities across their evenings and weekends (like childcare, other family commitments or work) make the most of this opportunity to exercise during the working day!

The details

We will host one guided run led by Students' Union staff and student officers. You will then do two additional runs each week on your own (or with a friend or family member!), guided by the Couch to 5K app. Download from the Apple Store or Google Play.

The runs will take place on the marked running track by the water at Docklands.

Everyone who completes the programme will recieve an award to recognise their achievement!

Please bring along any medicines you may need for relevant health conditions, such as asthma inhalers.
